RED DOOR LIFE REIMAGINES RECOVERY... WHY?

<intro about RDL?>

THE MAINSTREAM TREATMENT MODEL IS FAILING

Most mainstream treatment models offer a standard 30, 60, or 90-day program. These programs extract you from your life and relationships to detox and “get clean.” You are cut off from any pre-existing therapeutic or positive relationships. You may attend group meetings, interact with peers, and receive counseling. When the designated time frame is up, you are returned to the same life that was making you sick in the first place. You are left on your own to navigate the extremely vulnerable time of new sobriety without ongoing support, resolution of underlying issues, or environmental change. Faced with the same conditions and triggers, willpower can wear thin and lead to relapse. Clean, rinse and repeat. We call this the Car Wash Model.

Recent statistics show the relapse rate in the U.S. ranges from 40-60%. We find that unacceptable. Most mainstream treatment centers see the client through the eyes of pathology—symptoms, diagnoses, and labels like addict. Clients are reduced to their diagnoses instead of looking deeper and discovering what is causing the mental health symptoms and the need to abuse substances. Our tailored programs are designed to help you move beyond trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, addiction, or other mental health challenges.

<ADD STATS>

Drug overdose deaths hit an all-time record of 93,000 in 2020, rising by almost 30% in the United States, according to the CDC.

“Overdose deaths from synthetic opioids (primarily fentanyl) and psychostimulants such as methamphetamine also increased in 2020 compared to 2019. Cocaine deaths also increased in 2020, as did deaths from natural and semi-synthetic opioids (such as prescription pain medication),” according to the NCHS

“The COVID-19 pandemic created a devastating collision of health crises in America,” according to  Dr. Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

WHY IS THE RELAPSE RATE SO HIGH?

Most mainstream models prioritize profit margins and capitalize on the inevitable relapse cycle. These programs sell luxury, resort-style amenities and one-size-fits-all treatments that may keep you sober for a time but do not sustainably transform your life.

  • Standard program lengths are insufficient for comprehensive brain healing from substance abuse. It can take the brain a year or longer for executive function to heal from substance abuse and/or trauma. Executive function is the management system of the brain including working memory, flexible thinking, impulse control, decision-making, and the ability to self-regulate emotions. We need these skills to manage our daily lives.

  • Everyone has an array of conditions and circumstances that impact their recovery process and outcome. These programs do little to rebuild aspects of life that were triggering the substance abuse or mental health struggles in the first place.

  • Most mainstream treatment is clinical, and cold, and uses punitive and coercive methods to enforce sobriety. This does not inspire a sense of autonomy, responsibility, or collaboration that encourages willing participation and pride in your evolution.

  • Current models of care do not account for individual differences in responses to treatment and social determinants, needs and responses. Recovery is not a stint in a treatment center—recovery is a continuum. There are many stages and dips and turns requiring proper support at every stage to stay on your path.

Mainstream models of care rely on standard packages and predetermined lengths of stay and standard packages that don't account for individuality or individual responses to treatment.

Special Considerations

Red Door Life offers custom lengths of stay to facilitate sustainable recovery. We find the effectiveness of specific durations depends on various factors:

  • Stabilization and Detoxification: Longer lengths of stay allow for a more comprehensive stabilization and detoxification process, particularly for individuals with severe addiction or co-occurring medical or psychiatric conditions.

  • Behavioral Change and Skill Development: Extended stays provide more time for individuals to engage in behavioral therapies, learn coping skills, and develop healthier habits.

  • Addressing Underlying Issues: Substance use disorders often co-occur with other mental health issues or trauma. Longer treatment durations allow for a more in-depth exploration and resolution of underlying issues contributing to substance abuse, such as depression, anxiety, or past trauma.

  • Building Support Networks: Extended stays in residential treatment programs provide opportunities for individuals to establish supportive relationships with peers and staff members. These relationships can serve as sources of encouragement, accountability, and ongoing support during the recovery process and beyond.

  • Transition Planning: Longer lengths of stay allow for more comprehensive transition planning, including arrangements for aftercare services, such as outpatient therapy, sober living arrangements, or participation in mutual support groups like Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous.

  •

RED DOOR LIFE TRANSFORMATION

Most of these mainstream treatment models are replicas of each other that do not study the problem, invest in innovation towards positive outcomes, or push things forward in any significant way. These programs do not consider one’s life, individuality, or purpose or extend the conversation past sobriety to life transformation. Red Door Life offers tailored wellness programs and longer-term solutions that redefine the model of care from “treatment” to multidisciplinary support and connection.

Recovery is building a new sense of self and a new life.

Recovery is a lifestyle integrating meaning and purpose.

Recovery is transformation.
